Next year, audiences will be treated to a fairytale spectacle that many girls young and not-so-young may sigh at with relative whimsy.

Disney has released its first trailer of the live action film version of "Cinderella," a popular fairytale princess who arguably needs no introduction or much description. This comes on the heels of "a previous teaser that concentrated entirely on the story's all-important glass slippers," Cosmopolitan said.

"British actress Lily James, perhaps best known until now for her turn in 'Downton Abbey,' is playing our heroine - while funnily enough another 'Downton' alum, Sophie McShera, plays one of the Ugly Stepsisters," the publication went on to say. "'Game of Thrones' Richard Madden is Prince Charming while other key roles are filled by Helena Bonham-Carter, whose Fairy Godmother is a delight, and Cate Blanchett, who's taking on Lady Tremaine's villainy with campy gusto, it seems."

Kenneth Branagh, who directed this upcoming cinematic retelling of the fairytale, said that the film was built on the idea "that even though Cinderella would be delighted to find love, her life would not and could not be defined by whether she finds a man," as told to Yahoo! Movies.

"She likes herself, and she has no sense of self-pity or being any kind of victim," the director explained further.

Fans of the fairytale will be pleased to know that the film will feature "the enchanted mice, the sparkly fairy dust, and those shimmering glass slippers," all of which are notable elements of the story and can be seen in the trailer.

MailOnline noted the "brilliant" portrayal of Aussie actress Blanchett as the evil stepmother, saying she "certainly doesn't look like she'll disappoint as Cinderella's sinister 'care-giver' Lady Tremaine."

"Oozing beautiful wickedness, Cate brilliantly encapsulates the nefarious character," the British publication observed.

However, as Branagh revealed, it was the casting of Cinderella herself that took a long while to accomplish.

"It was months and months and many auditions; then tests and then screen tests. And Lily was incredibly patient through that process," the actor-director said.

The makers of the movie finally decided that James had what they were looking for in the movie's heroine, described as an "innate goodness 'that's also sexy and cool,'" as noted by Yahoo! Movies.

"Goodness can seem pious. It can seem righteous. It can seem too good to be true. We needed Cinderella to remain funny, sexy, smart and crucially kind," Branagh told E! News.

Branagh also teased that Ella, as Cinderella is called in the film, and Lady Tremaine will have a confrontation described as "a clash of the titans."

Watch out for Cinderella in theaters on March 13, 2015.
