Being behind bars has not put mass murderer Charles Manson off from tying the knot, this time with someone who is more than 50 years younger than him.

"Manson and 26-year-old Afton Elaine Burton were issued a marriage license on Nov. 7," New York Daily News said. "Manson, who is now 80, has 90 days to get married or the couple will have to reapply for the license."

The publication also quoted Burton as saying that the nuptials are "going to happen."

"Burton, who goes by the name 'Star,' moved to Corcoran, Calif., - where Manson is imprisoned - from the Midwest nine years ago to be close to him," New York Daily News added.

Meanwhile, Time said that in a previous interview, Manson had denied that he was getting married - a fact that Burton was pushing since last year.

"I love him," she said. "I'm with him. There's all kinds of things."

"Manson, who has been incarcerated since 1969, led a commune in the California desert known as the Manson Family," NBC News said. "He was convicted in 1971 of conspiracy to commit the murders of seven people carried out by members of his cult at his instruction. His followers also killed other people, and Manson was convicted of those murders as well."

Could this marriage be another way for him to carry out his strange machinations? After all, his wife-to-be isn't incarcerated and is out and about.

This development naturally draws the spotlight on Burton, who started corresponding with the convict when she was still 17 years old, according to Time. Since 2007, she has been visiting the man on weekends "for hours at a time."

It's not surprising to know that Burton believes Manson is not guilty of any of the crimes he's been accused and convicted of.

"Burton, who runs a few pro-Manson websites, said she would like to work on his case and that marrying him would allow her access to information and documents restricted to family," the news source said.

With that, authorities should probably put her on their watch list as a proactive measure.

Despite her baffling attraction to the mass murderer, Burton reportedly still has "a 'positive relationship' with her devout Baptist family and is regularly in touch with them." However, her dad has said her soon-to-be-husband won't be welcome in their home and that he won't be attending the wedding.

"California state law allowed inmates to marry in ceremonies that were usually held in the visiting room of the prison where they were housed," The Sydney Morning Herald said. "The marriage licence does not specify a wedding date."

Manson remains ineligible for parole until 2027, the publication added.
