Resident Evil 6 will be released on October 2, but the first review is already in.

The latest issue of the Official Playstation Magazine includes a review of the latest installment in the long running survival horror franchise. The publication gave the game a 9 out of 10 and even stated that the latest installment was a "glorious return" for the series. According to the Silent Chief, the only negative that Playstation Magazine found with the game was the split-screen co-op mode which continued to make it difficult to play and follow the plethora of action on screen.

The Resident Evil series went through a series of ups and downs throughout its lifetime. The first game was a major innovator in the genre of survival horror. Resident Evil 2 was seen as a step up in terms of action, but lessened in the horror aspect. Resident Evil 3 was considered a step down from 2 even though it did heighten the terror. It took almost 10 years between Resident Evil 3 and its next major title, Resident Evil 4. In between came a couple of mediocre spin-offs and a remake of the original which was well received. There was also a prequel entitled "Resident Evil 0" which was decently reviewed, but hardly adored by critics and gamers. Resident Evil 4 was a knockout and won critical acclaim for its revolutionary innovations as well as being the best game in the franchise and one of the best ever made. Resident Evil 5 continued along the path of 4's innovations, but many felt it was step down as it became too much of an action game and less of a survival horror.

A lot of pressure has been placed on Resident Evil 6 to bring the franchise back to glory as many feel that it has become stale and lost its ability to influence games. It has been almost 8 years since Resident Evil 4 was released. In this installment, Capcom has opted for three distinct campaigns in which players play with three different main characters in different settings and stories. The game looks to be an all-encompassing balance between its survival horror roots and more recent action emphasis.

Resident Evil 6 will be released on October 2nd for the Xbox 360 and PS 3.
