Apple's new version of its iOS mobile operating system, iOS 6, will be released on September 19, the company announced on Wednesday during its iPhone media event in San Francisco, California.

According to CNET, the new iOS 6 will be available in the recently announced iPhone 5 and will be available for download for older iPhone models. The change will come with a list of new features including an Apple-created mapping app, improved Siri and Facetime chats over a 3G cellular network. CNET also reported that the new operating system would include 200 additional new features.

Here's a look at some of the key new changes:

Safari 6: The improved web browser will include iCloud Tabs, which will track taps open in your different devices, along with saved web pages and easier access to photos and video while surfing the web.

Maps: Apple officially severed ties with Google Maps and released its own mapping app. The new app includes improved detailed images as well as visual and spoken turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic updates. According to CNET, the development was long-awaited but will prove well worth the wait.

Passbook: Ever wanted your coupons, loyalty cards, movie tickets and boarding passes all in one place? Well now you can with Apple's new Passbook. The new feature will notify you of new changes or expiration dates on your coupons and boarding passes. The app is location-based, so it will notify you when you're near a particular store or airline.

Siri: While Siri will not be available to previous iPhone models, despite the update, the voice assistant will play a much more effective role in iOS 6. According to CNET, Siri will now launch and perform fuctions within apps. Scott Forstall, Apple's Senior Vice President of iOS, also announced that the company is working with car manufacturers to allow customers to use Siri from the steering wheel.

Facetime and Phone: As mentioned before, iOS 6 will now allow Facetime to perform on 3G cell service, as well as on WiFi. Apple added new features to calling, including a instant reply or callback reminder for calls you decline. A new "Do Not Disturb" feature is also included.

Facebook: A tighter and easier integration with Facebook was also announced on Wednesday. This will include easier sharing abilities with photos, videos and even location.

Mail: Along with improved phone features, Apple also unveiled some email changes. The company announced that a new VIP feature has been added, which allows you to specify what emails you don't want to miss.

Shared Photo Streams: Not only will sharing photos through Facebook and email be easier on iOS 6, Apple has made it simple to share your favorite photo memories with family and friends through iCloud. You will no longer be forced to only share photos with iOS devices on the same account but will be able to share them with as many people as you want. CNET reported that users will also be able to "like" different photos and post comments on them.
