Just when we thought Woody and the gang's adventure-filled saga was over, with them being passed on to new owner Bonnie, we're greeted by the news that there will be a "Toy Story 4," which is also known as "the 'Toy Story' sequel nobody asked for," according to Slate.

"I, like me, you thought the finality of those last moments suggested that after 15 years the Toy Story series had come to a conclusion, think again: Today, Walt Disney CEO Robert Iger announced that Pixar chief John Lasseter will direct Toy Story 4, slated for 2017," Slate's Dee Lockett noted.

However, details on the movie plot are still "up in the air," which is understandable considering it's just been announced. Could the fourth installment be about those clues that point to Andy's mom's "secret identity"? More on that later.

With that, here's what we know so far about "Toy Story 4" and its characters:

Upcoming Installment Is a Love Story

According to the Los Angeles Times, the upcoming animated movie will be a love story. What sort of love story, we're not sure yet as no further details have been shared by John Lasseter, who will direct "Toy Story 4." He has also directed the first two "Toy Story" films, which is assurance enough that the 2017 sequel will be as good and entertaining as its predecessors.

Part 4 Will Continue Where Part 3 Left Off

Lasseter had revealed that the sequel will be a continuity. It can be recalled that Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the gang moved to a new home and got a new owner in Bonnie, a little girl who was one of Sunnyside's students.

The Makers Didn't Expect to Make Another Sequel

"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us," the director was quoted by IGN as saying. "We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before."

"'Toy Story 3' ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another 'Toy Story' movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie-and I wanted to direct it myself."

Now that also sounds exciting to "Toy Story" fans!

Andy's Dad's Backstory Is "Depressing"

The Huffington Post's Jon Negroni gave a convincing analysis on why Andy's dad isn't featured in all three films. He gave good reasons to believe that it's because the boy's dad "walked out on his wife and kids" via divorce. And no, he did not die, as some may have speculated.

"If he had died, then why are there no pictures of him on the wall in the Davis house?" the writer asked. "Andy's dad is not depicted in these family photos. If he had died, you'd think they would at least keep a picture of him up for the sake of honoring his memory."

"Of course, you can argue that he died a long time ago, and the family has forgotten about him already. But if that's the case, then how do you explain the fact that Molly (Andy's younger sister) is a baby? He would've had to have died recently in order for her existence to be possible," he went on to speculate. " Andy's mom is spotted without a wedding ring at Andy's birthday party in the first film. If Mr. Davis had died recently, then she would probably still be wearing it."

Also, in part one, it can be recalled that the family moved from a big house to a smaller one, which means "Andy's mom is having financial trouble" due to the separation.

"Oh, and the family gets a puppy. That's pretty much the king of single mother clichés," Negroni concluded.

Andy's Mom Has a "Secret Identity"

In another piece, this time featured on Slate, Negroni said that Emily, the previous owner of cowgirl Jessie, is actually Andy's mom. And this is mainly due to the observation that Emily's hat is so much similar to Andy's, except that Emily's had a white lace round the center while Andy's did not (but had white trimming at the edges).

Also, Jessie's hat looks similar to Andy's, and the flashback scenes that revealed Jessie's past experience with her previous owner involved a room that looks quite old-fashioned.

"We never get a closeup of Emily's face, but we do see that she has light, auburn hair as a teenager. Also, it is very short," Negroni continued, implying that the girl would look like Andy's mom a couple of decades forward.
