A story posted on Imgur recently drew the attention of netizens as a stranger's simple act of kindness brought relief to a child who had been bullied at her school for having "disgusting shoes."

The post was made by a mother whose daughter told her about a girl who called her shoes "disgusting" as they were heading out of the hospital, where the mother was getting her EKG holster attached.

"I told my daughter that the shoes do not define the woman - rather that her actions do," the woman said. However, as they made their way to the elevator, a man went after them and handed them a $50 dollar bill. "I refused - he insisted, saying he 'had more than enough,'" the mother went on to say.

"I started crying, and thanked him so much," she continued.

"We went to Nordstroms (Roseville Galleria), as they're known for a quality customer experience, and I wanted to spend every last dollar of that from the kind gentleman on shoes," the mother said. Unfortunately, a sales staff at the shop did not assist the pair, keeping herself at a 15-feet distance from the mother and child.

"I was very upset that she judged us on our appearance. I have been through times of financial thriving and hardship, and never felt so dismissed at a Nordstroms," the woman said. "I went and spoke to a manager, and he actually gave my daughter the experience she deserved."

"As a single mom, seeing this look on your child's face, after seeing the heartbreaking look on her face, while explaining how she was insulted for not being financially privileged is the real gift," she said. "We were also able to get her two new pairs of white tights! She has been wearing two year old leggings, with the pant legs cut off, to make shorts. She complained kids could see her panties under her dress, so I cut off the legs of old pants to compensate."

If you think about it, there actually is more than just one act of kindness involved in this mother and child's experience. And the combination of these helped turn around what could have been a traumatic experience for a child.
