One of fashion's legends have departed this earth, but he has left us a beautiful legacy wrought in fabric and style.

"The man -- often described as the 'sultan of suave' -- not only dressed every first lady since Jacqueline Kennedy, but also designed the wedding dresses for many of their children, including Jenna Bush and Chelsea Clinton," CNN noted.

Indeed, his flair for making women look their feminine best has won him the patronage of many of the world's famous and influential women.

With that, let's take a look at the best bridal gowns the 82-year-old designer had ever made, as well as his best perfumes.

Jenna Bush Hager

When former president George W. Bush's daughter got married, she walked the aisle in a beaded, organza de la Renta creation that came with a short train, InStyle said.

Huma Abedin

The bride wanted an "Indian-inspired" gown as her wedding trosseau when she marrie Rep. Anthony Weiner in 2010. She tapped the deceased designer to do the honors. De la Renta, in turn, said that the task felt like he "was like dressing Scheherazade, the beautiful queen from 'One Thousand and One Nights," according to The Washington Post.

Amal Clooney

This is probably his most famous bridal gown, as the British barrister's wedding to A-list actor George Clooney happened less than a month ago. The dress, its designer, and wearer were featured on the October issue of Vogue, no less.

"George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can't imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress," Amal told the fashion magazine. "Meeting him made the design process all the more magical, as he is so warm and such a gentleman."

"It's the most important dress in the life of a woman," de la Renta pointed out. "Any girl from any walk of life dreams of that special dress, and I try to make that dream a reality for her. Amal and I looked at a lot of evening dresses and wedding dresses together, and we discussed what she liked. That gave me the idea of what she wanted."

Aside from bridal dresses, de la Renta also produces perfumes, with his best-selling one being OSCAR, which was launched in 1977 and was "inspired by his mother's flower garden."

Meanwhile, his Volupte fragrance had won a Woman's Fragrance of the Year Award in 1993.

"Women today are far much more sophisticated at understanding the value of a fragrance," the designer told National Post. "The fact is that a true fragrance is not ever really about the bottle or the packaging or the name, although that obviously evokes something."
