It is now official -- Peyton Manning has the most number of career touchdown (TD) passes in the history of the NFL.

Manning broke Brett Favre's all-time NFL record of 508 TDs on Sunday, in a game between his Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers, details NFL.

The Broncos quarterback connected with Demaryius Thomas for an eight-yard touchdown in the second quarter for his 509th career touchdown pass, the NFL report pointed out.

The record-breaking pass was Manning's third touchdown pass of the night right on the game's first half, notes Sports Illustrated. He made a total of four TD passes for the game.

Demaryius Thomas dragged his feet near the sideline to score the TD. Peyton would have broken the record two plays earlier but Julius Thomas was not able to catch the pass, reports SI.

NFL said that Peyton made the 507th touchdown pass earlier in the game with a three-yard strike to Emmanuel Saunders on the Bronco's first drive.

The 508th touchdown pass, which tied Brett Favre's record, came during Denver's second drive on the third play. After his patented pump fake, Peyton threw a 39-yard scoring pass to Wes Welker who went deep to score the touchdown.

There was also a bit of drama and suspense during the record-tying touchdown pass as the official closest to the play ruled that Welker had stepped out before getting the ball to the pylon, cites SI. However, a second official overruled the call and after a review of the play, the second call and the record-tying touchdown pass held.

His fourth TD pass of the game came when Manning once again connected with Thomas on a 40-yard deep ball, amid double coverage on the wide receiver, the NFL report said.

"What I've concentrated on is trying to do whatever it takes to win. I don't feel like it (breaking Brett Favre's record for TD passes) has been a distraction because we've handled it and focused on what's important," said Manning earlier in the week.

SI also disclosed that Manning made touchdown passes numbers 507, 508, 509, and 510 exactly 5,887 days after making his first career NFL TD pass during his debut on September 6, 1998. That historic first pass was a six-yard strike to Marvin Harrison.

Peyton Manning broke Favre's record on his 246th NFL game, which is actually 56 games faster than Brett's.

Manning signed up with the Denver Broncos in 2012 after missing all of the 2011 season due to a neck injury. He recorded 37 TD passes in 2012 and log in an NFL record of 55 TD passes last season, points out SI.

The Broncos quarterback holds more than 40 individual NFL passing records.

During Sunday's game with the 49ers, with TD passes coming almost one after the other, one question was even raised whether Manning could break his single-game record of seven TD passes.
