Apple has finally unveiled new tablet iterations, the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini, which were announced at an invitation-only event on October 16, Fortune said. For this piece, let's take a close look at what is touted as the "world's thinnest tablet."

Thinness

"The new iPad Air 2 is 18% thinner than its predecessor and less than half the girth of the original iPad," the news source said, prompting Apple CEO to jokingly ask the audience whether they can even see the device.

It's impressive that the new iPad Air, at 6.1 mm, is even slimmer this time around, despite the fact that it still has a 9.7-inch screen. Stacking two of them makes them as thick as the original iPad Air, Yahoo! News noted. This naturally enhances the tablet-using experience as users won't have to complain about straining arms or wrists from handling the weight of the gadget for a certain length of time.

Glare Reduction

"The anti reflective coating on the Air 2 is the first in the world on a tablet and will reduce reflections on the display by 56%," Forbes said. It also helps that "the LCD, glass and touch sensor are optically bonded so there are no air gaps in between the different layers." That means no more squinting for iPad Air 2 users.

Better Cameras

The rear camera has an 8-megapixel resolution that can record 1080p HD videos, an improvement from the 5MP camera on the original iPad Air. The FaceTime camera can only take 1.2-megapixel photos, but it comes with "a brand new sensor" and a processor that "will help reduce noise for clearer FaceTime videos," TechnoBuffalo explained.

Touch ID

Finally, this tablet has a touch ID sensor on the Home button, allowing users to unlock the gadget, as well as installed apps. It can also be used to pay through Apple Pay online.

Improved Battery Life and Processor

iPad Air 2 can run on battery for up to 10 hours, thanks to an improved A8X processor, which is "more power efficient so it can run intense programmes and games without impacting battery life," Forbes noted.

"The new A8X processor is 40% faster than the iPad Air and it has 180x the graphics performance of the original iPad," the news source added. This makes the device great for gaming as it can support games like Bioshock "without even the merest hint of a stutter," Huffington Post UK said.
