Van Gaal is reportedly very excited and determined to acquire Arturo Vidal and lose Juan Mata, wrote the Mirror.
According to the Bleacher Report, Manchester United might release Juan Mata to Juventus for £20 million. Valencia is also allegedly interested in acquiring the 26-year-old Spaniard. Should a deal push through, Mata will be transferring in January 2015. However, there are some challenges to a deal, such as Mata being referred to as a "bit-part player" despite the fact that he started in five of seven Premier League matches.
Reportedly, Mata did not impress Louis Van Gaal much. Van Gaal has been making several adjustments since he took over the Old Trafford after the 2014 World Cup. The Dutch coach wanted Wayne Rooney to take on Mata's preferred role behind strikers Radamel Falcao and Robin Van Persie. Van Gaal did not rate Mata but is willing to let the midfielder go for the right price.
Manchester United will have to reinforce their midfield if Mata leaves. Currently, Mata and Rooney are the best midfielders in the team worthy of starting. Adnan Januzaj has potential but will need more time to develop from being a pure winger. The Old Trafford may be looking at Arturo Vidal and Kevin Strootman to replace Mata. However, the two are box-to-box midfielders, playing next to Ander Herrera. There are also injury concerns to ponder on regarding the two players.
So far, Manchester United has won over Everton and West Ham, showing that the acquisitions during the summer are actually working. In the following weeks, Van Gaal will most likely enter into deals to strengthen the team's defense, based on a report by International Business Times. Reportedly, the Dutchman is eyeing on Brazilian Dani Alves, who will be ideal for Van Gaal's three-center-back formation. Alves previously stated that he will leave Barcelona after his contract expires at the end of the current season. He shared that he preferred to transfer to the Premier League.
Andoni Zubizarreta, sporting director of Barcelona, told AS, as reported by the Daily Mail, that there are no talks yet, following the club's ban on signing players until January 2016.
"We've done nothing in that respect. We're talking about the contract with him. We'll see what the road is we'll take. It's also influenced by the decision of FIFA [on the transfer ban]. The best thing is that we come to see an incisive Dani, that's important," Zubizarreta said.
