'The Flash' Movie 2018 Release Date: Ezra Miller to Play Barry Allen

He may be "Nothing" in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" but Ezra Miller has a new identity, and he's definitely not "Nothing" anymore. In fact, anyone who would call him "Nothing" will not know what hit them, because Ezra is the new lightning-fast hero, The Flash.

DC Comics is making the most of the superhero popularity and is catching up with Marvel. Grant Gustin may play Barry Allen on The CW's television series, but Ezra is Warner Bros. choice for the big screen.

Miller will star in "The Flash" movie set to be released in 2018, and is noted by Buzzfeed as the first LGBT actor to play the role of a superhero in a fillm.

DC fans, however, were not taking the news in a positive light. One said in a tweet, "Flash had the biggest pilot opening for a show on CW I think Grant Gustin deserved a shot at the flash movie instead of ezra miller."

Another said, "UMMMM... I REALLY CANNOT STAND DC @grantgust IS SUCH A GOOD FLASH WHY WOULD YOU NOT USE HIM"

Still, another tweeted, "I mean, I adore Ezra Miller and he's fantastict but... but... Grant Gustin is seriously the perfect Barry Allen, he's only getting started!"

There are petitions to keep Ezra off "The Flash" movie and they have been making the rounds on Twitter.

"Please sign this petition for #GrantGustin to reprise his role as #Flash in upcoming DC films! #DCComics #TheFlash"

Although best known for his role in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" opposite Logan Lerman and Emma Watson, The Daily Mail  noted that he actually got critical acclaim playing the Tilda Swinton's homicidal son in "We Need to Talk About Kevin" which was released in 2011.

"The Flash" is not the only DC Comics superhero to have a movie though. "Suicide Squad" is set to be released on August 2016; "Justice League" on June 2017, with a sequel to premiere on June 2019; "Wonder Woman" for 2017, "Shazam" for April 2019; "Cyborg" for April 2020; and "Green Lantern" on June 2020.

 It has also been confirmed that "Game of Thrones" actor Jason Momoa will be "Aquaman" in 2018.

According to Buzzfeed, the slate of 10 DC movies in the span of four years suggests that DC Comics is ready to attempt to compete with Marvel Entertainment's box office hits. Marvel Studios has grossed over $7 billion worldwide for the 10 films that they released since "Iron Man" in 2008.

DC's strategy differs from that of Marvel's though, with the standalone films scattered around the main Justice League franchise films.

The wait is long before "The Flash" will premiere on the big screen, but fans should be excited to know that Ezra will be appearing in Judd Apatow's comedy, "Trainwreck", with Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, and Daniel Radcliffe in July next year.
