Just a day before Apple's big reveal of the new iPhone, supposed pictures of the iPad mini have surfaced on the Chinese website DGtle.

The leaked photos were republished by Nowhereelse.fr, a French Tech website, before the news gained any traction. It is unlikely that the mini will be announced at Apple's Wednesday press conference, as it would distract the media from covering the iPhone 5 full force. But rumors have been swirling around for months, along with a host of "leaked" specs

AllThingsD reports that the mini will be announced at its own press conference in October, after the iPhone 5 has shipped and is in consumer's hands. Speculation points to a 7.85-inch display, 1024 x 768 resolution, an A5X CPU, and a base storage model with 8GB. The device will run iOS 6, Apple's latest operating system.

When the iPad mini is released into the wild, it will have to face off against the freshly debuted Kindle Fire HD, and the Google Nexus 7.

Analyst Rhoda Alexander of HIS iSuppli argues that a price of $299 for the mini would allow Apple to "sit in a...comfortable place as far as profit" is concerned.

Despite continual leaks, anticipation for Apple's official announcement at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco is still at a record high. The convention site is even draped with a jumbo sized Apple icon surrounded by a rainbow colored background. Ipodnn suggests that the rainbow colors are vertically elongated iOS icons, which "could be a subtle hint that the new iPhone's display will be stretched to be larger vertically than wider."
