About two years since the last film from the "Twilight" movie franchise was released, a new series of "Twilight"-based films will be made. This time, however, the said flicks will be shown on the web, not in cinemas.

"Author Stephenie Meyer has teamed up with Facebook to create five short films (all directed by women) to be set in the Twilight universe and debut sometime next year on Tongal," Complex said. "None of the original cast members are expected to appear."

While that last bit may be a bit of a damper for fans of the Robert Pattinson-Kristen Stewart tandem, this news still gives fans of the novel good reasons to whoop for joy.

The short films, made also in partnership with Lionsgate - the company that churned out the movie versions- will be shown exclusively on Facebook once they're completed. Right now, they're still looking for five female directors to do the projects. As such, they're organizing "a talent search, called 'The Storytellers: New Voices of the Twilight Saga,'" Christian Post noted.

"The winners will be chosen and guided by a panel of judges which includes Meyer, 'Twilight' lead actress Kristen Stewart, 'Twilight' director Catherine Hardwicke, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Julie Bowen, film producer Cathy Schulman and 'Frozen' director Jennifer Lee," the news source said.

Woah - that's one illustrious panel of judges! We bet the filmmakers chosen for the gigs will be the best ladies for the jobs. Will there be a fan amongst the candidates?

Wait a minute - what about the casting? Fans all over the world are eager to get involved in the web series for sure.

According to Rolling Stone, Lionsgate pledged to pump a "significant" amount on the production of the short films, despite the non-appearance of the original cast members.

"We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of 'Twilight' to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans," Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns said. "This is the just the beginning - a template, if you will. You can probably guess what might be coming next."

What's your guess, Twihards?

Meanwhile, Kristen recently said that the "Twilight" movie series shaped who she is today.

"On an exceptionally obvious note, it's opened a lot of doors, but I've become who I am because of that," K-Stew said about the saga's influence in her life, as quoted by the Belfast Telegraph. "It was five years of my life."

"I was able to work for years and years on something that took so much out of all of us and did not leave us empty, replaced every bit that it took. That's why I love to do my job, it was just a very elongated sort of version of that," she added.

This is probably why she joined the panel of judges assessing candidates for the "Twilight" web series directorial positions.
