Argentine football sensation Lionel Messi says he does not compete with anyone in doing his job as Barcelona's star player. He just wants to win titles for his team.

Messi issued the statement to media amid constant comparisons between him and Real Madrid Star, Cristiano Ronaldo, reports Real Madrid News.

Global football pundits and fans acknowledge that Messi and Ronaldo are the best soccer players in the world today.

"I am not competing with Cristiano or anyone. I just do my job. I want to win titles," says the football fan favourite in the world.

The Barcelona forward says that he only focuses on himself and his personal achievements in football and not on the accomplishments of others.

Messi's ultimate goal

Since joining Barcelona as a 13-year-old upstart, Messi has set his sights on winning a silverware for his team. He has continued to strive to become one of the best, if not, the best player in the game of football.

Real Madrid News notes that comparison between Messi and Ronaldo simply cannot be avoided by football experts and fans as the two continue to surpass existing records in the club game.

Messi and Ronaldo will lead the 2014 Ballon D'or and both football stars are hot on the record 71 Champions league goals set by Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez Blanco.

Ronaldo is just one goal shy of Raul's record while Messi already has 69 goals, details Real Madrid News.

During the presentation of Gillette as the new sponsors for Barcelona, Messi was quoted by Real Madrid News as saying to the press: "I do not know what my place in history of the game and will be. Neither do I even think about it. I'm just focused on continually improving and winning more."

The better player

The million-dollar question on who between Messi and Ronaldo is the better footballer was posed to the Real Madrid star in August 2014.

In his reply, which was posted in Sportskeeda, Ronaldo was quoted as saying: "You cannot compare a Ferrari with a Porsche because (they have) different engines. You cannot compare them. He (Messi) does the best things for Barcelona. I do the best things for (Real) Madrid."

The Sporskeeda report even made a detailed comparison of the statistics between Messi and Ronaldo over their careers. Records show that the two are practically an even match although 29-year old Ronaldo came to the game ahead of the 27-year-old Messi.

In terms of scoring prowess, however, Messi seems to enjoy an edge as he has scored 407 goals in a total of 550 games while Ronaldo already made 427 goals in a total of 684 football matches.
