To be able to get instant feedbacks on its latest Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft will offer a free download of the initial version of the OS starting 12 PM (EDT) of Wednesday, October 2.

Download here.

Microsoft will be making the free download available to select users, but the company recommends that only expert computer users and IT professionals do so.

The free download is likewise Microsoft's way of giving select users a bird's eye view of the future of Windows.

Typical with a software that is still in the development stage, Microsoft warns that Windows 10 contains a number of bugs. The company, nonetheless, issued an assurance that it will quickly update Windows 10 and prepare it for its official release sometime next year.

Windows 10 is Microsoft's answer to critics for its touch-centric 2012 release and poor reception of Windows 8, cites International Business Times.

"The software giant has so far said only that it will open registration for the Windows 10 Technical Preview 'soon,' but Microsoft often releases technical previews at 9 a.m. PDT (noon EDT) - the start of the business day at the company's Redmond, Washington, headquarters," the site added.

Microsoft Windows, in the Windows Insider Program page of its website, has already posted the download links and product key for downloading the Windows Technical Preview.

The site already listed the steps and procedures to be able to download the software.

Downloading the Windows Technical Preview would require users to sign up with the Windows Insider Program. Should their computers meet the system requirements for the software, they can click any of the download links on the site.

The download will bring about a special file, called an ISO file, which shall then be used to install the Windows Technical Preview. A third-party program shall be needed in this case to convert the ISO file into installable media.

Microsoft recommends that the ISO file be saved in a DVD or USB flash drive. Users are then asked to boot their PCs from the installation media and follow the steps thereafter to complete the download.

Microsoft tried to blend and bridge tablets and PCs through the unified interface of the Windows 8, but fell short of expectations. International Business Times reported that the company "was criticized for features that worked well with a touchscreen but not a keyboard and mouse, and others that were hard to manage with a tablet."

"The new naming convention - which leapfrogs Windows 9 entirely - shows how much Microsoft wanted to distance Windows 10 from its last operating system," cited the report.
