Believe it or not, there are some not among the lucky millions who have already bought the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 plus. This group has not refused to buy Apple's latest toy because they do not want one, but because they do not want one under contract. While unlocked iPhones are not as well publicized in cellular retailers as other contracts, there are still places where they are available.

T-Mobile

The first and most prevalent retailer is T-Mobile. They are offering the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus under their no-contract deal that they have been pushing hard in recent years. Potential buyers should take notice though: anyone who chooses to buy an iPhone 6 from T-Mobile must abide by its usual unlocking policy. This means that customers must pay off any installment-plan balance remaining on their device and spend 40 days on the T-Mobile network before they can switch over to other carriers.

Other Carriers

Of course AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and even Apple are also going to be offering unlocked iPhones in the retailer markets that can be used on other carriers. T-Mobile is the only one that has been actively marketing them as options, however.

Amazon

That does not mean that it is your only option to get an unlocked device. You can also find the device on Amazon, and because of the nature of this service, the phones are largely selling unlocked and without contract for a little over $800 after shipping and handling.

An unlocked 16 GB iPhone 6 currently retails for around $649. That is not exactly an unreasonable asking price for the device, especially considering that it only jumps up to about $100 for the phones with larger memory capacity. For instance, the 64 GB version goes for $749, matching the starting price of the iPhone 6 Plus.  The plus-sized phablet also increases by $100 for every increase in storage.

Those prices may sound like a huge jump from what the phone costs on-contract, but that would be ignoring the amount of charges that can be accrued by going the contract route. Those incremental charges throughout the contract period can increase the cost by hundreds of dollars for any of the phone models.

UK Pricing

In the United Kingdom, the iPhone 6 begins at £539 for the 16 GB model, £620 for the 64 GB model and £699 for 128 GB. The 6 Plus retails for £619, £699 and £789 for the 16, 64 and 128 GB models without contract.
