Earlier this year, it was announced that New Zealand-based artist, Lorde, will be curating the "Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" soundtrack. And now, she has released the lead single off the said album and have once again proved why she's one of the hottest artists today.

"Now, about this song - 'Yellow Flicker Beat.' It's my first offering from what I hope will be a soundtrack you love. It's my attempt at getting inside her head, Katniss. I hope you like it," Lorde's Tumblr post about the track read.

Is the song any good? Judging by the reactions from fans and pundits that came soon afterwards, it appears Lorde has done it again - created another sonic hit, that is.

"The song is definitely dark, in true Lorde-fashion, but totally perfect for the film," Hollywood Life noted. "The song, written for the film and produced by famed Paul Epworth, definitely has 'flicker beats' scattered throughout, which gives it amazing personality and really fitting."

"There's a chorus here which won't shake the world but it's got enough shout-along-with-me spring to qualify as minor anthemic. It makes this not quite danceable but definitely hummable and another smart musical, as much as career, step by Lorde," said Bernard Zuel of The Sydney Morning Herald.

"As the song moves on, however, it is not the fans but the opponents, those who stand in the way, who must make way. A solid, thumping bass drum and nagging keyboard line, which is just out of focus, probe away and you realise that whether it's Katniss or Lorde, there will be a reckoning," he added.

"Surprise! Lorde's 'Yellow Flicker Beat' single is pretty bad ass," tweeted SCAQTony.

"YELLOW FLICKER BEAT IS SUCH PERFECTION! #MockingjayPart1," said HungerGamesProblems, who was replied by Dan Flatters with this rebuttal:

"I'm still deciding, I like the song but I'm not sure Lorde is the best person to sing it."

"Amazing lyrics, appropriately dark and brooding tone, true to Katniss, and when the beat drops; sensational!" posted Twitter user LordeRulez.

"Can we all just agree that Lorde is a musical genius?" tweeted Taylor Schombert.

On YouTube, where the single was also released, some gave mixed reactions to the song, while others praised the track.

"I had high anticipation for this song, since her song for the 'Catching Fire' soundtrack, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, was very dark and haunting as well, but this song doesn't seem to meet the standards of 'The Hunger Games,'" said user DinoMightNetwork.

"Honestly, I really really loveee the song! It's very dark and perfect for Mockingjay Part 1, just my opinion. Very cool music sound as always, well done Lorde," Luis Labrador commented.

The "Mockingjay - Part 1" soundtrack will be out on November 18. The movie itself drops in theaters on November 21.
