Is this the season of sequels? After hearing about a host of other hit decades-old films getting a cinematic follow up (e.g. "Dumb & Dumber" and "Goonies"), we're now learning that there'll be a "Bill and Ted 3," according to Time.

"Actor and director Alex Winter, the renowned Bill of 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure,' said in an interview that the franchise's most awaited third installment will not only be most excellent, but most 'f-ing funny,'" the publication said.

The third movie will also star Keanu Reeves as Ted and will have both lead actors playing 40-somethings, which is just about right.

"It's all about Bill and Ted grown up, or not grown up," Alex revealed to Yahoo Movies.

Looks like that theme will strike a chord with a number of today's 40-something males, basing on a Nickelodeon UK-commissioned survey that revealed "both men and women agree men remain 'immature' well into their late 30s and early 40s," as noted by The Telegraph.

"It's a Bill & Ted movie, that's what it is. It's for the fans of Bill & Ted," Alex went on further. "It fits very neatly in the [series]. It's not going to feel like a reboot. The conceit is really funny: What if you're middle-aged, haven't really grown up and you're supposed to have saved the world and maybe, just maybe, you kinda haven't?"

He also went on to explain that the movie aims to answer the question "What happened to Bill and Ted?" and will do so in a "comedic way."

However, the actor-director warned that the film won't be out in the near future.

"The thing we had going against us is that word got out. That was kind of a bummer. It just takes a long time to put a movie together. Now we're having to build this thing in public, which is fine. I just feel bad [the fans] have to get dragged through this long, boring, protracted process," he said.

However, he assured fans that producers and financiers are already on board and that they have screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon working on the script, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"We've been working on drafts for the last couple of years. The script's been finished for a while, but comedy is so specific. We're in that world where producers are on, financiers are on and we're just working and reworking the script," Alex shared.

The fact that they're taking time to develop the script is reassuring for fans; let's just all hope they don't take too long to start filming the project. After all, it's been 23-years since "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" was released.
