Free Game with Xbox One Promo Starts; Destiny, Madden NFL 15, Watch Dogs & More!

If you have just tuned it to updates on XBox One promos, chances are, you have yet to learn that Microsoft has kicked off a free new disc-based game promotion upon purchase of a console.

Gamespot said that the promo was announced for the first time last week, and it is only available for customers living in the U.S.

Fans of the console could avail the one-time offer at participating retailers like Target, GameStop, Best Buy, Toys 'R Us, Amazon, and Wal-Mart, among others.

"For one week only - from September 7 through September 13 - when you buy an Xbox One from participating retailers in the U.S., you'll get a free Xbox One game of your choice," the announcement read on the XBox site.

IGN said that the promotion was a good thing for gamers who have yet to switch to the new-generation consoles, as a massive online multiplayer shooter game is set to debut this week: "Destiny."

"Destiny" has no reviews ahead of its September 9 global launch, as video games normally have, but publisher, Bungie Games, has earlier explained that the release of the game for reviews was delayed because they "want to make sure that those reviews are authentic to the actual gaming experience," Business Insider reported.

Apart from "Destiny," IGN also said that the promo is applicable for customers who wish to purchase new consoles with "Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition," "Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition," "Metro Redux," "Watch Dogs," Titanfall," Wolfenstein: The New Order," "Call of Duty: Ghosts," and more. Meanwhile, the best console bundles in the market today, according to IGN, are Xbox One Madden NFL 15 Bundle and One Console - Forza Motorsport 5 + Kinect. 

Gamespot added that the promo is also available for customers who wish to purchase any of the XBox One system bundles. 

Great things have been said about the promo, but CNET revealed a few hiccups. "The deal doesn't apply to preorders, so any game launching later this year will not apply. Microsoft is also banning refurbished consoles or used games from the deal. Gamers must also buy the title on physical disc and its value must not exceed $59.99 before tax," CNET noted.

Nonetheless, the timeliness of the offer appeared to be the company's response to Sony's earlier announcement of selling 10 million Playstation 4 consoles since its launch last year. It has been believed that the XBox One sales are only half of PS4's in the same period, CNET added.
