A 33-year-old French man was recently sent to jail for calling and texting his ex-girlfriend a total of 21,807 times, averaging 73 per day.

"The unnamed defendant, a 33-year-old man from Rhone in southern France, began to harass the victim, a 32-year-old teacher, after she broke off the relationship in 2011," Mashable said. "The man, who has been hospitalized for depression in the past, said he could not accept the break up."

"At the time, my logic was that as long as she does not return my money, pay me for my work or at least tell me thank you, I would not stop my calls," the scorned lover revealed, according to Mashable. "Looking back, it was stupid."

The Guardian said that the man stopped harassing her "only when she finally thanked him, during a meeting organized by a mediator." He had since stopped contacting her.

He was later sentenced to a 10 month stint in prison, although 6 of those months were suspended. He was also slapped with a nearly $1,300 fine, The Guardian added.

Manuella Spee, lawyer of the Frenchman's ex, said that her client had "tried to block her line," The Huffington Post noted. "But he phoned her parents instead and at her workplace."

The plaintiff's attorney also said that the woman had "suffered a lot."

"The court also ordered the man to undergo psychiatric treatment and to stop all contact with his ex," the publication added.

The man reportedly wants to go back to school and study to become a legal assistant, saying that he has a "passion for writing."

Considering he sent that many texts (aside from calling), we believe him.

It can be recalled that a similar report about a spurned lover harrasing the ex with multiple calls made the rounds in cyberspace in July this year. However, it was later debunked as a fake report, according to The Epoch Times.

The article, which alleged that a woman from New Mexico was arrested for calling her ex boyfriend for about 77,000 times in a week, was originally posted on satirical site World NewsDailyReport.com.

"The 28-year old woman allegedly not only called her ex-lover a formidable 77 639 times in a week, but also sent him 1937 emails, 41 229 text messages, 217 sung messages and 647 letters in the same period," the fake article went. "Linda Murphy, who has an history of obsessive compulsive behavior, would have badly taken her breakup with William Ryans."

The piece was later featured on many media outlets, leading to many to believe that the report was true.
