The upcoming Jordan 14 Retro "Challenge" is a sleek pair of kicks - definitely buy-worthy.

That's because the scarlet footwear, one of many in a collection named after his Airness and NBA icon Michael Jordan, is inspired by an equally iconic symbol of luxury - the Ferrari.

Jordan and Ferrari: a match made in sports heaven. Ball skills plus speed equals awesomeness. And, in this case, a stunning pair of basketball shoes that's definitely a collector's item as well.

"Inspired by a love of cars, this Air Jordan 14 Retro takes on the luxurious design and sleek lines of an iconic sports car," said Nike's official description of these babies. "A one-piece soft suede upper is eye-catching in a deep Challenge Red, while the midsole features a carbon fiber graphic."

"Vibrant Yellow accents on the shield logo and back heel piece inspires speed on the court," the site added.

"An all red 1-piece upper sits atop a black midsole that also has a few pieces covered in a carbon fiber print, giving these an amazing look that draws on the automotive inspiration," Sneaker Watch described further. "Slight hits of yellow on the branding also bring us back to the cars which helped inspire the design process."

These kicks have actually been released last month, although the launch was exclusive to Chicago. The initial release was done to coincide with "Team USA's exhibition trip to Chicago for a World Basketball Festival warmup," Foot Locker said. It has since received a lot of love. Well, who won't get excited at a collectible that combines the best of two icons and it is something that you also can wear?

Also, wearing a pair of these shoes will allow you to legitimately say you do own a Ferrari - an Air Jordan Ferrari, to be exact. Well, MJ did drive his own Ferrari even from way back, according to Road & Track.

We're predicting this edition will run out of stock pretty quickly, given the initial hoopla over these shoes and the melding of two iconic brands, not to mention its ultra sleek and cool look. So, you better rev up your credit card engines come September 6, Saturday, which is when these latest Air Jordans are going to drop at $200 a pop. Selling begins at 10 a.m. EDT or 7 a.m. PST at the Nike site.

You can also get a pair from UBIQ this Saturday at $170. Do know you need to register for their raffle to get a chance to buy this sneaker on September 6.

Studiiyo23 is another site where you can buy the kicks, as well as eBay
