The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicked off on Wednesday in New York City to provide Spring 2013 previews for retailers, editors and stylists before fashion crowds head back to Europe during the Fall, reported the Washington Post.

Fashion week, which is held twice a year at the Lincoln Center in NYC, features over 80 international designers in eight days of shows. The shows allow designers to showcase their latest designs for the upcoming season. Celebrities often attend the shows, and in some cases host their own shows with their own creative designs.

The third day of Fashion week this year experienced some brief rain showers before getting back on track. The Washington Post reported that top designers are focusing less on seasonal dressings and more on pieces that can be bought year-round.

J. Crew's Tom Mora told reporters, "I'm not designing specifically for 'the show' or even for spring. We have deliveries once a month and we always want it to look new."
