An anthropologist from the University of Hawaii made stunning revelations that will surely change fans' perspective on one of the most popular Sanrio Character - Hello Kitty.

Buzzfeed reported on Wednesday that almost every person on Earth knows Hello Kitty very well, but everything is expected to change after anthropologist Christine Yano revealed several secrets about the character. Here are five things that you don't know about Hello Kitty:

1. Hello Kitty is Not a Cat

Yano revealed in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that she was corrected before when she indicated on her written text for an exhibit that Hello Kitty is a cat.

"I was corrected - very firmly," Yano said. "That's one correction Sanrio made for my script for the show. Hello Kitty is not a cat."

2. Hello Kitty is a British Girl

Yano also revealed that she was stunned when she found out that Hello Kitty is actually a British girl, who has her own background story on the official Sanrio Town website. According to her profile, Hello Kitty is the daughter of Mary White and George White, who are both from London.

3. Hello Kitty Has a Pet of Her Own

Yano added that Hello Kitty is a little girl that sits like a normal two-legged creature and a girl, who has her own pet - a cat named "Charmmy Kitty" and a pet hamster named "Sugar." The pet cat was a gift from her father, while the hamster came from her childhood friend, "Dear Daniel."

4. Hello Kitty's Original Name is "Kitty White"

Based on her profile on Sanrio Town, "Kitty White" is the real name of the popular character, who was born in the suburbs of London. Kitty White is a Scorpio, who celebrates her birthday every November 1st.

"A lot of people don't know the story and a lot don't care," Yano said of Kitty's British roots. "But it's interesting because Hello Kitty emerged in the 1970s, when the Japanese and Japanese women were into Britain. They loved the idea of Britain. It represented the quintessential idealized childhood, almost like a white picket fence. So the biography was created exactly for the tastes of that time."

5. "Kitty White" Has a Twin Sister

Unknown to many fans of the popular figure, Hello Kitty has a twin sister named "Mimmy White," whom he considers as her best friend and they share a lot of interesting hobbies such as baking cookies and making pancakes.

"Mimmy White is Hello Kitty's twin sister and best friend. The two of them grew up and studied together, sharing lots of life experiences and fun adventures with each other," Sanrio Town wrote.

As expected, many fans were surprised with the revelation about Hello Kitty with most of them saying that they were "mind blown" because they were convinced since their childhood that the iconic character is a cat.

Reacting to the news that went viral online, Peanuts Worldwide confirmed that identity of their own character, posting on Twitter that Snoopy is indeed a dog.
