Director Francis Lawrence has been fortunate enough to be entrusted with the remaining three movies under the "Hunger Games" franchise, which shows that the studio trusted his handling of the movie adaptation of the popular trilogy written by Suzanne Collins. The impressive box office performance of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" also bolstered the producers' decision to hire his services once more for parts 1 and 2 of the final installment, "Mockingjay."
In a recent interview, Lawrence, who is not related to "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence, revealed what to expect from the last two sequels.
"It's a very confusing, conflicted, complicated time for Katniss," the filmmaker told Entertainment Weekly about the final installment. "Having gone through the games one more time and having lost Peeta and having been run through the wringer, she's even more damaged. So you find her in a more agitated place. She's distraught, confused, angry."
"There's definitely some battles. There's some of the first glimpses of real war in this movie. And the scale gets quite big," he continued. "There's an atonal shift from some of the last movies, but they're still very emotional, very sweeping, [on a] grand scale with some levity and humor."
On that note, it can be said that humor can help lighten any difficult situation and help the heroes and heroines in the story maintain that hope that keeps them from giving up on their campaign.
The director also clarified that there won't be major changes to the story, Inquisitr noted. "For us it's world expansion instead of changing things. I think it's exciting for the fan[s] to see certain things. So we've been able to open the world up in this and see some new places. We get to see some new districts this time and the scope gets quite large," Lawrence said.
He, however, refused to reveal at which point the films split. It can be recalled that the final book in the "Hunger Games" trilogy has been developed into a two-part movie. The director did promise that it will be "one of the really good surprises" of the two flicks. He also said that although the films are based on a single book, they will have "two different, very distinct stories." It will "surrise even the fans of the book," he added.
Aside from J-Law, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson, who will all be returning in both parts of "Mockingjay" to reprise their respective roles, the films will also feature Julianne Moore, Natalie Dormer, Gwendoline Christine, Mahershala Ali, and Robert Knepper, Zap2It said.
"Mockingjay - Part 1" will be in theaters on November 21 this year.
