Alex Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2 of the preseason matches of the NFL on August 16, writes 49ers.com.

The final score was 15-13 and quarterback Smith was obviously struggling against his old team. In a report by ESPN.com, Smith released an incomplete pass to a fully covered wide receiver and also took a hit from Tony Jerod-Eddie, who was called for a personal foul after the helmet-to-helmet tackle. It was a rough night for the Chiefs, especially on offense. Smith only had 7 out of 16 for 62 yards.

Running back of the Chiefs Jamaal Charles was also out of action due to an injury. The Chiefs only managed to score one touchdown after a kickoff return. Smith had a difficult time on an aggressive pass rush during the first half. He got more hits later in the game. B.J. Daniels, backup quarterback of the 49ers, successfully threw a touchdown pass late in the game to give their team the victory.

Colin Kaepernick, who is now the starting quarterback for the 49ers, played during the first offensive series only. He threw two passes. "It was a little overthrown. We got the perfect look," Kaepernick said, referring to a misfire to wide receiver Chad Hall. Colt MCoy and Scott Tolzien took over after Kaepernick exited.

The San Francisco 49ers did greet Smith warmly before the game. "It was different, definitely different. Those are guys I played a long time with and know very well. There was a lot of talking out there, back and forth from a lot of guys." Smith added, "We left a lot out there, I think. Didn't handle the pressure as well, and just some finer details here and there. We certainly left a lot out there."

Coach for the 49ers Jim Harbaugh said, "There were a lot of good things. Perrish Cox had a good game. Michael Wilhoite looked very solid. Nate Stupar played well again. I though Eric Reid did some good things. So it was a plus-plus on the defensive side again." He referred to Smith, "I felt a lot like going against my brother. It was different. It was personal, in the best kind of way. I wish him great success and health. We'll be following him."

Charles is still recovering from a strained right foot. In a report by CBS Sports, he said, "We'll see when we start practice on Sunday how I feel. I'm trying to get my body ready and back in shape."
