Monday was about to end when the news of award-winning funnyman Robin Williams' death came through, shocking fans and fellow artists alike.

Naturally, the world wondered what was behind the beloved 63-year-old actor's passing. Was it a heart attack? It can be recalled that he had heart surgery back in 2009, which turned out to be successful.

"Doctors found he had an irregular heartbeat - and then did an angiogram and discovered his aortic valve needed to be replaced," The Daily Mail reported.

"I have one new valve and a repaired valve," Williams had revealed in an interview. "It's from the heart of a cow. They give you a choice. You can have a pig valve and then find truffles, or a cow valve. The mechanical valves last much longer."

However, according to The New York Daily News, it appeared that the comedian's death was ruled by local authorities to be "a suspected suicide."

"The 63-year-old actor was found unconscious around 12 p.m. inside his residence in Tiburon, according to a report by the Marin County Sheriff's Office," the publication said. "An investigation into his cause of death is underway but the coroner suspects that it was a suicide caused by asphyxiation. A forensic examination with toxicology testing is scheduled for Tuesday."

Meanwhile, the actor's publicist released the following statement: "Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."

In addition, Williams' wife, Susan Schneider, also shared her sentiments and thoughts on the heartbreaking situation, as reported by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."

Aside from these, President Barack Obama himself also released a statement regarding Williams' passing, underscoring the significance of the comedian's contributions to culture and entertainment.

"Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien - but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most - from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin's family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams," read President Obama's statement, as reported by Deadline.

The actor was known to share his addiction troubles and his struggles in maintaining sobriety for two decades. He relapsed 2005, prompting him to undergo rehabilitation in the next year. Then, in July this year, his rep confirmed that he entered rehab once more in order to take the "opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud," as told to ABC News.

"It's [addiction] -- not caused by anything, it's just there," Williams was quoted as saying back in 2006. "It waits. It lays in wait for the time when you think, 'It's fine now, I'm OK.' Then, the next thing you know, it's not OK. Then you realize, 'Where am I? I didn't realize I was in Cleveland.'"
