The world was (and still is) shocked when the headlines announced comedic genius Robin Williams' death on Monday. He had made millions laugh and cry with his incredible acting and comic talent through films and TV appearances that never fail to fascinate viewers, and so it is only natural that many would regard his passing as a waste of genius. After all, even at 63, despite his depression woes, the man still appeared to have a couple of laughs in him that will also entertain the rest of us.

"A skilled comedian adept with impressions, physical comedy and witty retorts, Williams kept audiences laughing on television, in his stand-up routines and in many of his feature films," Mashable noted. "Williams was also a skilled dramatic actor, winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in 1997's 'Good Will Hunting.'"

Speaking of films, let's pay tribute to one of Hollywood's brightest and most talented stars with this list of his best movies:

Good Morning Vietnam (1987)

This film is from his early days in the entertainment industry and is considered to be one of the catalysts to Robin becoming a movie star as it led him to more appealing and lucrative film projects.

"A huge success that earned him his first Oscar nomination and first Golden Globe, 'Good Morning, Vietnam' dramatized the wartime experience of real-life Armed Forces Radio Service DJ Adrian Cronauer, finding belly laughs as well as poignant drama in his attempts to survive the war while finding friendship and battling the hypocrisy of his superiors -- all to the strains of one of the decade's best-selling soundtracks," Rotten Tomatoes said.

Dead Poets Society (1989)

Gen Xers would most especially remember the funnyman for his poignant turn as "fun-loving poetry professor", John Keating, in this tear-jerker of a flick. He "came to a stuffy boarding school, then challenged and inspired his students through his outside-the-box teaching methods," according to Time. This role got Robin nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor.

Aladdin (1992)

"His largely ad-libbed voice work in 1992's Aladdin represents the best of both worlds: Williams firing on all cylinders and delivering some of his funniest lines without having to carry the film," Rotten Tomatoes observed. And many would agree - this role is one of his most commercially successful and popular ones and heralded him as a voice talent par excellence.

Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

As the cross-dressing nanny, Mrs. Doubtfire, the actor proved his versatility and incredible knack for impersonation. This film "just cemented America's love for Williams." Too bad he won't be able to be back for the sequel that was reportedly planned for 2015.

Good Will Hunting (1997)

After years of being an Oscar nominee, Robin finally got hold of his first and only Academy Award for his role as Dr. Sean Maguire, Will Hunting's (Matt Damon) therapist. "Their sessions together revealed a lot about the characters and the actors, paving the way for more serious roles for Williams and kick-starting Matt Damon's career," Time noted.
