Apple will be holding a media event in September, as it usually does on a yearly basis, and it's been rumored that the much anticipated iPhone 6 will be launched on that same occasion, Time reported.

"The exact details of the launch haven't been revealed, but rumors abound about the event and the types of new features the phone may include," the news source noted.

iPhone 6 rumors have been swirling as early as late last year, soon after the release of the current version of Apple's bestselling product. And the "leaks" continue to make the rounds online, with each week bringing new updates about what the new iteration will look like and what features will be included in the upcoming model.

Take for example a recent update reported by The Mirror: it said the new model "appear to show scratch proof alloy Liquidmetal," which is "stronger than titanium but can still be molded into intricate shapes."

Then there's that recent image leak showing "the un-boxing of a brand new iPhone 6," as noted by The Independent.

"These latest images show the phone and its packaging, apparently as it will come when it is ready for retail," the publication said. "The appearance of both phone and box are not far removed from what we've seen with previous iPhones - but with the expected larger 4.7" or 5.5" screen."

All these leaks, and the shorter intervals at which they're coming these days, indicate that the iPhone 6 launch is definitely very near. As such, there's good reason to believe that the September 9 Apple event may also serve as the new gadget's launchpad.

Additionally, it's possible that the new iteration will be retailed next month starting on September 19, which is a Friday. According to The Wall Street Journal, sources have told the publication that the California-based company has asked its suppliers "to manufacture between 70 million and 80 million units combined of two large-screen iPhones with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays by Dec. 30."

It's also possible that the media event next month will confirm iPhone 6 spec rumors, some of which involved size and camera quality.

"The new phones are expected to be lighter and thinner, with a better camera," Time said. "They're also supposed to resemble the Apple iPod Touch."

"A new 2,100mAh battery may be installed in the next generation of iPhones, meaning a 45.8 percent increase from the current 1,440mAh model used in the iPhone 5s," the publication added.
