All-around action man Jason Statham's job is not a walk in the park. Unlike actors who specialize in the dramatic genre, he constantly faces risks to his life whenever he embarks on a new movie project that involves dangerous stunts and explosion-laden scenes. And, knowing the former diver, pretty much all of his films have been of that nature.

Given this fact, it is still compelling to hear the English actor having very close brushes with death, as he is one of Hollywood's most bankable action stars today. Fans of his genre and body of work would understandably want to see more of him and would hate to lose him to something that could have been mitigated.

Recently, Sylvester Stallone, Statham's co-star in the newly released "The Expendables 3," revealed that the 47-year-old martial artist nearly lost his life while filming the movie.

"He faced death," Stallone began, as quoted by The Independent. "He was test-driving a three-ton truck and the brakes run out."

"It went down 60ft into the Black Sea and became impaled. Luckily we had taken the doors off before," the "Rocky" star continued. "If anyone else had been in that truck we would have been dead because we were all wearing heavy boots and gun belts."

"We would have drowned. But because Jason is an Olympic-quality diver he got out of it," he added.

"Jason, 47, competed for England on the springboard and the platform in the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand, before he shot to fame in 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,'" The Mirror noted. "The hard man has gone on to appear in action films including 'The Transporter' and is known for doing many of his own stunts."

Stallone also said that his able-bodied co-star "looks great on camera."

"He is a great athlete. He learned on the street and is a bad ass for real," the 68-year-old actor pointed out.

This revelation is actually not new - "Expendables" co-star, Terry Crews, had mentioned Statham's near brush with death about a year ago, while appearing in "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno, according to Yahoo! Movies.

"We were doing a stunt and Jason Statham was driving the truck, and we were supposed to be on the back of this truck," the former NFL star recounted. "For some reason we're over there talking, sipping smoothies and he gets in the truck... We're in Varna, Bulgaria, on the edge of the Black Sea, he literally was supposed to stop the truck, we [get out and] shoot the whole thing."

"Well, the truck doesn't stop! The truck rolls over the dock, into the Black Sea with Jason Statham driving!" he exclaimed. "In your mind, you have an action film where you're like, if that happens I'm gonna grab the truck, I'm gonna do all this stuff. [But] I was like [screaming] 'Jason! Jason!'"

"I'm in a heap on the ground, he's in the water, in the truck! Now we are freaking out," he continued. "Everybody's screaming, I'm [crying], and literally he gets out, swims to the top and the truck is gone. And we're supposed to be on the back of that thing, I was supposed to be on that!"

"He gets back, they dry his clothes, and they're just like: 'We're going to shoot it again, we're going to shoot some more.' I'm like, 'What?' Let me tell you something, Jason Statham, he is a true bad, bad, badass... I couldn't believe it!" Crews said in closing.
