Whoever thought of bringing together two of the most iconic animated families in one big project is a genius. The episode that would feature "The Simpsons" and the Griffin family of "Family" in one show will be aired on September 28, and the trailer for one of the most highly-anticipated television series episodes was shown at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con.
MassLive.com said that the trailer, which runs nearly five minutes (!), was a generous sampling of what fans of both the animated classics would expect in the mashup episode.
The trailer showed clips of both the Simpsons and the Griffins bickering on which family is better. The families have also bonded over prank calls, doughnuts and about the quality of water in the fictional city of Springfield. On the other hand, Polygon deemed that the best cameo in the mashup episode was mustachioed burger flipper, Bob of "Bob's Burgers."
The Hollywood Reporter said that the mashup episode would be featuring the people who have given the voices of the couples of the most beloved animated families on the small screen: Homer (Dan Castellaneta), Peter (Seth MacFarlane), Bart (Nancy Cartwright), Marge (Julie Kavner) and Lisa (Yeardley Smith). Although the trailer has led fans to assume that an epic battle of proportions would be played in the episode, Fox confirmed that the characters of "Family Guy" will actually bond with their counterparts on "The Simpsons." This was inevitable considering that both families both have dumb but lovable dads (Homer and Peter), moms who shoulder the brunt of family problems but still play the doting partners in the process (Marge and Lois), daughters who are misunderstood (Lisa and Meg) and scheming sons (Bart and Stewie). Although the difference is that Simpsons have another baby daughter Maggie, both have pets who have been part of their children's, and even the parents' adventures (Brian, Santa's Little Helper and Snowball).
Polygon said that the animated series have been successful also in the video game business, and has also expanded their franchise to mobile games, thanks to "The Simpsons: Tapped Out" and "Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff."
On the other hand, this would not be the first animated series crossover done for longest running sitcom in American TV history. Gizmodo said that the first one was with "The Critic" back in 1995, but did not achieve the same level of status as "Family Guy."
