The Miami Heat has been busy "retooling" after the departure of superstar LeBron James. Possibly, the new Big Three of South Beach are Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Danny Granger.
Miami Heat President, Pat Riley, signed Danny Granger for two years for a contract worth $4.2 million as well as Josh McRoberts for a four-year contract worth $23 million. The two players were brought in by Riley to take on the role of forward, which used to be James' spot. The two players also have some background with LeBron.
In a report by USA Today, James and Granger had a verbal altercation during the 2012 playoffs when Granger was playing for the Indiana Pacers then. He reportedly used to criticize the Big Three during their first year with the Miami Heat. The Pacers passed him to the Philadelphia 76ers in February 2014 but the Sixers bought out his contract. Granger signed with the Los Angeles Clippers next where he played only 12 games. Granger was an All-Star in 2009 but missed most of the 2012-2013 season due to patellar tendinosis.
Dwyane Wade will definitely be spearheading the new big three for the 2014-2015 season. In the past season, he averaged 17.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while playing for almost 35 minutes, according to a report by ESPN.
Chris Bosh scored 14.9 points, grabbed 5.6 rebounds and had 1.1 assists per game while playing for 34.3 minutes. Bosh leads Miami in blocks with 1.0 per game. Danny Granger has a lot of room to fill after only averaging 8 points per game. James was the team leader in terms of points with 27.4, rebounds with 7.1, assists with 4.8 and steals with 1.8.
In a report by Rotoworld, Danny Granger's best years were from 2008 to 2010 where he averaged 24 points per game. It is unlikely that he will take on the former role of James with the same efficiency. Granger will have the most impact in the locker room and the Heat will have to rely on other players to create plays and score more. The addition of McRoberts and Luol Deng will be helpful in increasing team dynamics. Hopefully, Dwyane Wade will also step up and be healthier in the next season. Chris Bosh has at least three more good years in him.
