Whisperings of a "Prometheus" sequel still have not died down, although new updates on a possible follow up to the 2012 film have been pretty much nonexistent for nearly 2 months now.
However, updates on possible "Prometheus 2" returnee, Michael Fassbender, have not been lacking.
For one, he has been "rumored to be considered for season 2 of 'True Detective'", according to KpopStarz. "Michael Fassbender seems like such an obvious choice for 'True Detective' that it would be hard to believe if it turns out he was never in the running," the site quoted a pundit as saying. "For all we currently know, he could be in talks with Pizzolatto right now."
Speculations, speculations. There's never a shortage of those. What's new, then?
Now, here's one more update about the Oscar-nominated actor worth mulling over - and it's a confirmed fact.
"'X-Men: First Class' and 'Shame' actor Michael Fassbender is attached to star in 'Assassin's Creed,' based on the massively successful video game franchise from Ubisoft," MTV reported. "He'll co-produce the project through his DMC Film with partner Conor McCaughan, with Ubisoft Motion Pictures developing the film outside of the traditional Hollywood studio system."
"At one point, Ubisoft was in negotiations with Sony to produce the adaptation; those talks have since been sidelined," the entertainment news source added. Perhaps because the game's makers won't have much creative control over the film project?
For the unfamiliar, "Assassin's Creed" is a collection of video games that revolve around an order of assassins "spanning a vast number of time periods from the Crusades to the American Revolution."
"When a young man named Desmond Miles is abducted by a secret organization with ties to the Knights Templar, he learns that he's connected to these assassins in a way he never could have imagined," MTV noted.
"Plot revolves around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins after he is kidnapped by a secret org with ties to the Knights Templar, and sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts," Variety added.
Will Michael play Desmond? It appears that he won't necessarily be the main protagonist in the film. He may be one of the actual assassins, though. On the other hand, Ubisoft's CEO thinks he's perfect to play the lead role.
"Michael Fassbender was our first choice" said Jean-Julien Baronnet, Ubisoft Motion Pictures' CEO. "Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor."
Indeed, many would agree to that. His recent Academy Award nomination is one proof. You may probably be wondering why an actor of his caliber would want to be involved in such a movie project. Let's hear it from Michael himself, as reported by Screen Rant:
"That's definitely happening. We're just developing the script at the moment. I'd heard of it but had never played the game. I don't have a video game player ... that's not what they're called. I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they told me the story behind it, and I thought it was very interesting-the idea of reliving memories."
So, will the "Prometheus" sequel come after this project? Let's see what happens in the next few months.
