As the days leading to the debut of the final season of "Sons of Anarchy," fans have speculated that the hit FX biker drama would be capping the show with the death of its primary protagonist Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam). On Sunday at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego, showrunner Kurt Sutter had teased fans on what could be the saddest outcome since Walter White's death in "Breaking Bad."
"Eighty-nine percent of my family think that this season will kill me. I know where I want our hero to be emotionally and thematically at the end of the season, but I try to keep a loose grip on the story process so we can get there in an organic way. I can never tell what it's going to look like or how we're going to get there, and that's part of the fun," TVline quoted Sutter.
He also said that Jax's fate could be actually approved by Hunnam himself. He added, "[Season 7 will be] the most proactive our hero has been throughout the entire series... This season he comes out with blinders on, singular in purpose. Rather than being the reactor to chaos, he is the inciter of chaos."
Jax's death has been teased during the teaser to the show's Season 7, of which one clip showed him in a gruesome jail scene, Entertainment Weekly noted. Moreover, it could be recalled that last season, Gemma (Katey Sagal) had been the one who killed Jax's wife, and confrontation between the two could lead to a deathly showdown of sorts.
Sagal said about her character's development for the season finale, "It's an awesome thing...as an actor to be actually saying words and thinking different words. Any time she is relating to her family, her son, her love for Nero, there's a certain vulnerability about her that really offsets that hard ass edge she has exterior-wise. She's going to be even more multilayered this season as she tries to hold together what she does in the name of really protecting her family one more time."
Although the show would be ending real soon, Sutter also announced that talks are still ongoing for a prequel treatment of the biker, and would be focusing on a storyline regarding origins of the SAMCRO biker club, and will involve John Teller and Piney Winston.
"If I do get the prequel, it will probably be a one-off. I don't think it's a full blown five-season series," Sutter said.
Moreover, the Guardian added that "Anarchy Afterwards," the talk show hosted by "Chelsea Lately"'s Chris Franjola, would be broadcasting live following even episode in Season 7. Fans would have the opportunities to ask questions about the show to their actors and producers of the biker drama.
