It's been a while since Captain Jack Sparrow took us to one of his rum-filled adventures, and fans will have to wait a while more.

The next time we will see the captain will be in 2017 (yes, definitely a ways away) for the fifth installment in the series.

According to Deadline.com, "Pirates 5" has July 7, 2017 all for itself but it will still be competing with a range of movies that includes "The Fantastic Four 2" and "Despicable Me 3" which will open on July 14 and June 30 of that year.

So why the delay?

Apparently, despite the initial 2015 release, Disney said that it will not be wise to rush the script of a much-loved film. It better be good, since the Pirates franchise had been worsening over the years. True they've been extremely profitable, with "On Stranger Tides" hitting the billion-dollar mark, but Disney owes it to its fans to make the story more interesting this time around, considering how long everyone has to wait.

And it's not just that. According to ScreenRant.com  after the project was put on the back burner due to additional time development and budget trimming because of "The Lone Ranger" flop, Johnny Depp is still one busy actor, and he couldn't just wait around for "Dead Men Tell No Tales" to start production. He has a roster of other projects to attend to.

He is currently filming a gangster biopic titled "Black Mass," with Bendict Cumberbatch and Dakota Johnson. IMDB  described the film as "The true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf."

After he's done with that, Depp will then jump right in to another role, this time for Tim Burton's sequel for "Alice in Wonderland 2" (Through the Looking Glass) with Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham-Carter.

On that same note, the sequel to Alice is set for 2016, therefore making it practical for the house of Mouse to set aside the other big Depp movie for another year.

To be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" will be penned by Jeff Nathanson while Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (known for their indie drama, "Kon-Tiki" in 2012) will direct the movie.

Filming, according to Bruckheimer, will begin early 2015, but considering this installment's track record, that remains to be seen.
