It's the middle of the year and the iPhone 6 fever is running higher as it nears its rumored launch timeframe. One evidence of this is the fact that the features of Apple's newest smartphone iteration have reportedly been leaked on no less than Amazon.

"With a rumoured release date for the new handset widely believed to be September 19, the website allegedly listed the 4.7 inch device, despite it not having been officially launched," Mirror reported. "The device was allegedly listed at a purchase price of 139,999 Japanese Yen - which equates to around £805 for the 64GB model."

Later, it was learned that Amazon itself did not post the said item. Forbes noted that the iPhone 6 listing "appears to have been posted by a Marketplace seller."

"A seller on Amazon Japan's marketplace published a product page for the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 revealing a host of details: dimensions of 130 x 65 x 7mm (5.11 x 2.56 x 0.275 inches); weight of 113g (3.985 oz); gold remains a colour option," the site said.

The next question now would be: Could this be a legitimate posting?

Not long after the said page was live, Amazon Japan removed it, which Forbes said "traditionally strengthens the validity of a leak." But this doesn't guarantee that the posting is indeed trustworthy.

"Firstly since the images of the two phones are not proportional it suggests the listing is using an earlier holding image which implies that the dummy units may actually be newer and closer to the final iPhone 6 design," the business and finance news source analyzed.

"Secondly the dimensions appear too good to be true. An increase of just 0.39-inches does not seem enough for Apple to squeeze in the extra 0.7-inches of the iPhone 6's display, even if Apple drastically reduced the top and bottom bezels," Forbes added.

As with all other iPhone 6 leaks, it's best to take this latest one with a generous helping of salt - and expect that yet another leak may clarify this puzzling turn of events.

The much-anticipated Apple smartphone model has long been rumored to be "considerably thinner than the current iPhone 5s" and will also have a "durable Sapphire display," as noted by Macrumors. Various mock ups and dummies of the said device have popped up online, fueling speculations on what the final design would actually look like or feature.

What do you think of the Amazon listing? Right on the money or off its target?
