With plans for the sequel to "Prometheus" now in place and spoilers leaking here and there, fans of the science fiction film are currently a little worried that director Ridley Scott may not be available to manage Part Two.
Sir Scott is a busy man. He has been selected to take directing credits for the 2014 film "Exodus: Gods and Kings," as well as "The Martian," which is set for release in 2015. "Exodus," a film interpretation of the Moses-led exodus of the Israelites from Egypt, stars Christian Bale, Aaron Paul and Sigourney Weaver and is set for worldwide release on December 12 this year. "The Martian," another outer space-set adventure starring Matt Damon, is scheduled to begin production in the fall. In addition to being a director for this film, Scott also enters as a producer, joining Aditya Sood and Simon Kinberg, writes Hollywood Reporter.
With a schedule so packed, will the 77-year-old Scott still have time to direct the "Prometheus 2" movie? According to Blastr, there appears to be no word to date whether he will be on board. "If Scott is shooting 'The Martian' next, and if 20th Century Fox is still interested in getting 'Prometheus 2' ready for a summer 2016 release, then the chances of him getting behind the camera for it look increasingly dim. Not to mention that he's always got about 456 other projects he's either producing or thinking about directing, including 'The Forever War' and 'Blade Runner 2.'"
So far, all we know is that Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace have already signed on officially for the sequel, at least according to We Got This Covered. Apart from Scott returning, there are also rumors on the huge possibility that Guy Pierce will also be returning either for his old role or as another character. To recap, Pierce played the role of power-hungry Peter Weyland, who eventually died at the end of the film. However, holographic representations of him after that has led fans to predict that we have yet to see more of the villain. However, this bit of the puzzle is still something that is unconfirmed.
"I'd love to go back and play that character again. To work for Ridley again, you know, he's great -- really wonderful to work for. So yeah, I'm very cautious to see what he will do next with it," said Pierce in an interview with IGN.
So, as of this writing, everything else beyond Fassbender and Rapace signing on is still up in the air. Will the studio move its planned March 4, 2016 theater release forward to accommodate Scott's schedule? Will it seek the expertise of another director? Will Scott suddenly say, "Yes, of course, I'm in!"? Or will the studio scrap the entire project altogether?
