It seemed evident that Luis Suarez will be on his way to Barcelona sooner, after news broke out that James Rodriguez wishes to play in Real Madrid.

In a report by Telegraph, the transfer of Rodriguez may be the biggest in the summer. He was the most popular player in the 2014 World Cup after stellar showings for Colombia. He made two goals, including an important one against Uruguay in their last match on June 28, 2014, which elevated him immediately as one of the premier players worldwide. The midfield attacker is only 22 years old and brought his team to the quarterfinals of the tournament. He currently has five goals in four games and is among the potential players who can win the Golden Boot.

In an interview, Rodriguez was asked whether he would like to play in Spain. He replied, "It would be a dream to play in Spain, one of the best leagues in the world. I prefer Real Madrid."

Since 2012, Manchester United and Tottenham have been eyeing on Rodriguez but still failed to come out with a worthwhile deal. Rodriguez moved from Porto to Monaco in the previous summer for a contract of about £45 million. Monaco is not expected to bend unless potential teams make a spectacularly huge offer.

Rodriguez shared that he preferred to transfer to Real Madrid instead of Barcelona, should he be in a position to pick between the two Spanish teams.

Rodriguez was also asked about the ongoing FIFA tournament according to Goal.com. He said, "I'm happy because we won and we are through. There's no chance to value what I'm doing - maybe when this is over. Now you have to try to play every game like it's your last." He added, "But it is historic - a dream come true for me. I always wanted to score in the Maracana and now I have. Uruguay had a lot of men behind the ball, so we needed plenty of movement up front and we got it. Now things are going to get harder but I believe we can go a long way."

Colombia expected James to step up after fellow Colombian Radamel Falcao was injured. He has, so far, shown that he is worth the money. The World Cup is a great stage for new talents to show their potential to become huge stars and help teams win. Premier clubs have watched Rodriguez deliver and are bound to start making offers soon.
