According to the National Retail Federation survey, Americans will spend about $12.5 billion for Father's Day 2014. Compared to Mother's Day, people still spend more for mothers, with the previous unofficial holiday garnering about $19.9 billion in sales. On Father's Day, people also spend a lot on electronics, books and sports items. It is also a popular activity to take the family out to lunch or dinner together.
In a report by Parade, a number of restaurants will be giving away special freebies for dads on their special day. These are available on June 15 (Sunday) only.
1. The Counter Custom Built Burgers.
The burger joint features a "BFD" package where fathers will get a free burger on Father's day. To get the free meal, customers only need to tell their server that their dad is a BFD. BFD stands for "Big [expletive] deal". Others may use the abbreviated term and still get the free standard burger weighing 1/3 pound. The burger deal does not include the market select and bison burgers, however and will only be given for free after you purchase a burger. All branches of The Counter Custom Built Burgers throughout the United States will offer the freebie, except those at airports. The chain is based in Los Angeles and also has branches in Hawaii, New York, Florida, Georgia and New Jersey.
2. Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill.
A special Father's Day menu will be featured by the restaurant. You will find a three-course meal and a free gift for your dad at a value price of $15 only. Upon entering the restaurant, fathers will get a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) free entrée coupon which they can use for the next visit. Smokey Bones has 65 locations in 17 different states.
3. The Irish House.
The Irish House in New Orleans will offer beer at only 50% of the regular price for fathers on their big day. Dijon Restaurant in New Orleans will also give Sazerac cocktails to dads for brunch at only $5 each in a report by Nola.com.
4. Omaha Steaks.
The restaurant will trade an old tie from dads with a coupon. The coupon will render six free hamburgers with a minimum purchase of $30. Another freebie will also be given away for fathers who hit a hole-in-one on Father's Day. The lucky dads will get a free box of T-Bones from Omaha Steaks. Present the scorecard from the golf course and have it signed by a golf pro. The PGA Member ID should be included to prove the validity of the scorecard.
5. Hurricane Grill & Wings.
The restaurant will offer five free chicken wings when you purchase an entrée. Dads can pick one of over 35 chicken wing flavors for their free lot.
Boston Market, Jelly Belly, McDonald's and Papa John's are among the several others that offer discounts and free food to fathers on June 15.
