However, this isn’t the first time that photos have trickled onto the internet. Near the end of August, tech website Giz-China released images of the alleged Apple device’s casing. According to AppleInsider, the more recent photos show a headphone jack at the top of the mini, which was previously located at the bottom in Giz-China’s leaked pictures.
According to CNET, the photos indicate the presence of a rear-facing camera with an LED flash, a FaceTime camera at the top of the screen, a thinner bezel than its bigger brother, smaller dock connectors, a volume control interface on the right side of the iPad, and a mute switch on the left.
The iPad mini is widely speculated to have a 7.85-inch display with1024 x 768 resolution. AllThingsD suggests that the mini will only be introduced after the iPhone 5 is “out the door” at a special press conference of its own in October.
The device’s rumored specs include an A5X CPU and 8GB of storage and up for the base model. The mini will likely run on iOS 6, Apple’s latest iteration of its proprietary operating system.
After Amazon unveils the Kindle Fire 2 at its Thursday press conference, the tablet market will be home to another powerful contender. Apple plans a press conference of their own for September 12, but the word is that the show will put the spotlight on the iPhone 5, diffusing hopes that the iPad mini would be revealed as well. Which of the two rumored tablets will you be buying this fall?
