Monday saw Apple introduce its latest Mac OS to the world. Christened OS X Yosemite, the operating system boasts an array of new updates that may delight Mac users once it is officially made available in the fall this year.

Phone Calls Possible

You can now make phone calls on your Mac. Could this be a precursor to Apple's rumored plan to set up home connections? This feature was demonstrated by Apple's senior VP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, during WWDC 2014's first day, Mashable reported. He called up no less than Beats Electronics founder Dr. Dre to show off this new addition.

Better-Looking Icons

This is indeed one of the most significant modifications in OS X 10.10. The icons on the bottom of the Mac screen are clearer and cleaner than ever, including those that don't really need a prettified appearance. "That is a gorgeous trash can. You wouldn't believe how much time we spent crafting a trash can," Federighi noted.

In addition, Wired observed that the dock and windows are now translucent, as well as Reminders, FaceTime, and Contacts. This makes the icons "less intrusive on your desktop experience."

"App icons have also been redesigned with updated typography that looks more modern and iOS-like. There is also a new dark mode for windows and the dock," the tech news source added.

Improved AirDrop Feature

Things are now more streamlined as the improved AirDrop can enable users to transfer documents and other files from OS X Yosemite to iOS 8, and vice versa. Users can also switch from working on one device to another one seamlessly. This should entice and motivate tech lovers to get Apple smartphones AND personal computers.

Bigger Interface Entry Field

With version 10.10, you now are treated to a larger search bar when you click on that magnifying glass icon on the upper right corner of the screen. A Spotlight interface field will appear in the middle of the screen when you search for something.

Most of all, this latest update will, again, be made available to users for free.
