According to a TechBargains survey of over 1,300 people, over half of all current iPhone owners plan on buying the iPhone 5, and over a third of shoppers plan on picking up the device on its release date.

74 percent of iPhone 4 owners, 71 percent of iPhone 3G owners, 64 percent of iPhone 4 owners, and 38 percent of Blackberry owners have the iPhone on their wish lists, reads the data. Additionally, for 32 percent of consumers, the iPhone 5 will be their first smartphone. Only 22 percent of Android users plan on converting to the iPhone brand.

When asked about the time frame of their purchase, half of the future iPhone 5 owners polled had no time frame set for their purchase. 35 percent plan on buying the device on its release date, and the dedicated Apple fan base comprises the 10 percent that will wait in line on the day of release.

In terms of popularity, 45 percent of the people surveyed will buy the iPhone 5 at some point. 24 percent were undecided, and 31 percent denied having any interest in the smartphone.

In terms of most wanted features, 93 percent wanted a longer battery life, 90 percent want a faster processor, 83 percent want 4G, and 76 percent want a bigger screen.

Given the relative secrecy on Apple's end about the price point for the device, it would be interesting to see another poll taken post-September 12, after the air clears and the company outlines the details of the iPhone 5's launch.
