Hundreds of firemen continue to work without rest on Friday, four days after a series of forest fires began, which have destroyed thousands of hectares in southern California, and caused thousands of residents and students to be evacuated from their homes.

According to radio station 89.3 KPCC, firemen have extinguished five separate fires in the same area, close to San Bernardo; however, new fires continue to devastate hectares of scrub and have caused the evacuation of schools and homes.

Containing efforts have been impaired by dry weather and strong winds which fuel the flames, but so far there are no reports of anyone being injured by the fires.

Despite this, the University of California, with over 9,000 students, announced on Thursday that it will maintain its evacuation orders during Friday, and many graduation ceremonies were cancelled because of it, according to news agency Reuters.

Until the morning of Friday, it was reported that about 31 square miles of San Diego County had been consumed by the flames.

Two Teenagers Arrested for their Involvement in the Fires

During the night of Thursday, Escondido police revealed that two teenagers were arrested for crimes related to the premeditated fires.

Isaías Silba, 19 and another 17-year-old whose identity was not revealed, both from Escondido, were arrested at around 7:25 p.m., local time, after a witness said he had seen two people start a small fire in the scrub, according to a report from the Police Department, quoted by KTLA.

According to the same source, the city of San Diego emitted a press release asking any person who has information on these premeditated fires to call Crime Stoppers at 619-235-8477.
