Many boxing fans have been criticizing Manny Pacquiao for being past his prime and getting slower by the fight. On the other hand, Mayweather is also no longer at his best. Floyd's father, Floyd Mayweather, Sr. however, is not yet done trash talking the Filipino fighter, saying that his son can easily dominate the Filipino eight-weight-division titleholder.

After Mayweather won over Marcos Maidana on May 3, 2014, a lot of fans commented that the undefeated boxer looked old and was no longer as quick and powerful as he was against Saul Alvarez and Robert Guerrero, in a report by East Side Boxing. Others said that the match should have at least ended in a draw.

Fans are now getting more interested in seeing a mega-fight happen between Pacquiao and Mayweather, after the fact that the latter did not win convincingly against a much less powerful opponent. Even Muhammad Ali and Lennox Lewis commented that the two fighters should come to an agreement to make boxing history.

Floyd Sr. speculated that the Pacquiao-Mayweather match would be "an easy fight" for his son, adding "That's nothing, man, I'm telling you. You may not believe it, but that's an easy a** fight. He's not technical enough... I'm telling you right now, Pacquiao would get his a** tore up."

In a report by Epoch Times, Pacquiao has "no chance" against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. John Kelvin of Boxing News 24 said, "Maidana fought a good fight but I don't think it was enough to earn a draw or even more bizarrely a win which some people are claiming. Mayweather decided to do more fighting than boxing and won clearly, Maidana was not robbed in anyway." Kelvin went on to say that Pacquiao declined in terms of speed and power punching abilities.

Mayweather Jr. said, "I don't need him, he needs me. Now he's begging - 'Do it for the fans.' I fight my fights for Floyd Mayweather. Many Pacquiao had his chance." The last condition Mayweather imposed was that he would never fight Pacquiao as long as he was with Top Rank Boxing under Bob Arum.
