This recent verdict involves just one of many lawsuits that Apple and Samsung have filed against each other in courts around the globe.

The lengthy legal battle between the two giants in the tech industry appears to see no end, as the other party would resort to making an appeal once the ruling is not in their favor. However, for now, a federal jury in the U.S. District Court of Northern District of California, San Jose division, decided that South Korean company Samsung should pay Apple $119.6 million over patent infringements, CNN reported.

"While certainly not insignificant, Friday's decision was by no means a total victory for Apple: The Cupertino, California-based company had actually sought a much higher sum from Samsung, and the jury only sided with it on two of the four patent infringements that it claimed," CNN said. "And according to the court documents, Apple must pay Samsung more than $158,000 for patent infringement accusations filed by the Korean smartphone maker."

Apple released a statement saying that this decision "reinforces what courts around the world have already found: that Samsung willfully stole our ideas and copied our products."

"We are fighting to defend the hard work that goes into beloved products like the iPhone, which our employees devote their lives to designing and delivering for our customers," the U.S.-based company said.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the jury, which had 8 members, deliberated for 3 days after going though four weeks of testimony.

"This amount is less than 10% of the amount Apple requested and probably doesn't surpass by too much the amount Apple spent litigating this case," Brian Love, assistant professor at the School of Law of Santa Clara University, told WSJ. "Apple launched this litigation campaign years ago with aspirations of slowing the meteoric rise of Android phone manufacturers. It has so far failed to do so, and this case won't get it any closer."

Will Apple throw in the towel? Will Samsung appeal or hang up their legal gloves as well? What do you think, Latinos Post readers?
