Just a few days ago, Apple Insider said that "a dodgy set of renderings sourced from Eastern Europe on Friday purport to show Apple's next-generation iPhone with a chassis designed to hold a 4.7-inch display in an ultra-thin 6 millimeter cross-section."

However, there were also rumors that the California-based company is having problems making batteries thin enough for the new iPhone iteration.

Then, just recently, another update came up and alleged that a case made for the iPhone 6 was compared to a current model of the iPod touch. Based on the comparison, it appears the upcoming Apple smartphone "could be as thin as the existing iPod touch," according to Mac Rumors.

"A fifth-generation iPod touch is placed inside of the alleged 4.7-inch iPhone 6 case, demonstrating a perfect fit when it comes to depth," the tech news site said. The current iPod touch is 6.1 mm thick, while the iPhone 5s is 7.6 mm thick.

"Reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted a thickness of 6.5mm to 7.0mm," Mac Rumors added.

Based on the comparison, it would seem that the iPhone 6 "could have the elongated, rectangular buttons of the iPod touch rather than the circular buttons of the iPhone 5s. This is in line with previous rumors and with a possible volume button part."

As is the case in previous "leaks," it's hard to ascertain whether the iPhone 6 case being compared to the iPod touch is indeed what Apple is making right now. However, the design does look similar to previously leaked renderings, schematics, and manufacturing molds.

Aside from the thinness of the device, the iPhone 6 has been predicted to "incorporate slimmer bezels, an upgraded A8 processor, and an improved camera via optical image stabilization." It's also probable that a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 may be released in the fall, and a 5.5-inch model shipped out later this year.
