The top 6 went for the theme "A Little Bit Country and a Little Bit Rock 'n' Roll," and also welcomed a new addition to the Idol cast - Grumpy Cat.

For the rock 'n' roll theme, Jena Irene chose "Barracuda" by Heart which had Keith and Harry commenting about releasing more. Her country song pick was Carrie Underwood's "So Small," earning her praise from Keith who said, "You are such a good singer! You are everything 'Idol' has always been about."

Sam Woolf did Imagine Dragons' "It's Time" and turned to "You're Still the One" by Shania Twain for his country pick. The idol gathered mostly positive comments from the judges for his rock 'n' roll performance but according to Yahoo!, Harry said Sam's vocals on Shania's song didn't have enough dynamics or character.

C.J. Harris took "American Woman" to the stage, as well as Zac Brown Band's "Whatever It Is." The judges thought that C.J.'s country song pick wasn't entirely the perfect choice. "A medium-tempo, easy song like that is not going to kill... You can't get by with songs like that anymore," Harry remarked.

Alex Preston had the judges impressed with his country song pick, "Always on My Mind" by Willie Nelson. Harry gushed about the performance, saying, "I feel very lucky to have heard that. It was exactly what it should have been. You're an artist." Alex did Neon Trees' "Animal" as his first song.

Caleb Johnson did not fail to impress with his own rendition of Black Crowes' "Sting Me." "That was some real rock 'n' roll... You created a moment!" Jennifer said. The Idol also marked Carrie Underwood's "Undo It" as his own.

Finally, Jessica Meuse sang "Somebody to Love" by Jefferson Airplane and did her own version of "Jolene," gathering mixed reactions from the judges. Jennifer and Harry liked the tweak but Keith liked Dolly Parton's version better, he said.

As for the results, which the official "American Idol" Twitter account referred to as "shocking," Sam Woolf, Caleb Johnson, Jena Irene and Alex Preston all made the cut. C.J. Harris and Jessica Meuse were the bottom two and at Ryan's cue, C.J. was sent home.

"American Idol" Season 13's top 5 will be doing "America's Request" theme next Wednesday (8/7c), notes TV Line.
