Cuba Gooding Jr & Wife Split after 20 Years [Find Out Why]

After 2 decades of togetherness, actor Cuba Gooding Jr. and his "high-school sweetheart" wife Sara Kapfer hae called it quits, Hollywood Life reported.

"Sara filed for a separation in L.A. County Superior Court on April 22, citing irreconcilable differences," the entertainment news publication said. "Sara and Cuba, who said their 'I dos' in 1994, have three children together, two sons named Spencer and Mason, and a daughter named Piper."

According to TMZ, Sara wants "joint legal and physical custody." The talks about child support will be done at a later date.

This bit of news may come as a surprise for most people, especially those who have heard the "The Butler" star gushing about his marriage to his long time love, The Daily Mail noted. Well, perhaps it was a one-sided view, considering the fact that it was Sara who filed for separation.

Cuba did admit, though, that "he was struggling to find time to be with his family while performing in 'The Trip to Bountiful' on Broadway," the British news source said.

"When you do films, you're away from the family, but I can still fly them in or fly home to see them, so...my wife and I...have this rule -- never go more than three or four weeks without seeing each other," Cuba was seen telling the hosts of "The View" last year.

"But I knew this commitment meant that I would be in New York City for a long time; I'm here possibly through September, so it's a bit of a pull on that to keep the household together. But she allowed me to be indulgent for obvious reasons...This is a once in a lifetime opportunity," he added. "I got a wonderful lady that knows how to run the household even when I'm not there. (And) we're just blessed with wonderful kids."

So, what went wrong?

One of his revelations during last year's interview could give us a clue into his relationship with Sara. He shared that his wife is like five women rolled into one and that he had to introduce himself to each version of her every few years. He also said he wants to "kill her sometimes."
