It turns out that Reddit has taken down r/technology from being a default Subreddit, reports BBC. The move to downgrade the tech section of the popular website comes after a Reddit user found out that more than a dozen words have been banned from being posted on the said Reddit section.

Reddit user creq has posted a list of keywords which he claims are banned from r/technology. "Putting one in the title of a post will result in that post not showing up in the feed," he said.

The list of so-called banned keywords includes NSA, Comcast, Bitcoin, Snowden, Flappy, Obama, FBI, Time Warner and Anonymous among many others.

According to The Daily Dot, a certain admin, agentlame, has admitted to using a software that filters certain keywords from being posted. According to him, banning headlines with "politicized words" was a general rule in the r/technology admin team.

"We don't have enough active mods and posts that break our rules can make it to the front page in less than an hour. So we're stuck using a bot," agentlame told The Daily Dot.

Victoria Taylor, Reddit's director of communications told BBC, "We decided to remove /r/technology from the default list because the moderation team lost focus of what they were there to do: moderate effectively. We're giving them time to see if we feel they can work together to resolve the issue."

Taylor adds, "We might consider adding them back in the future if they can show us and the community that they can overcome these issues."

Reddi user creq posted that /u/kn0thing has reportedly stepped down from being a moderator at the now unlisted r/technology subreddit. "I'm not sure what the story is, but I'm guessing me doing this was the cause of all this. All I can say is that I hope this all works out for the best," adds creq.
