In the latest Major League Baseball (MLB) rankings for 2014, the Oakland Athletics became the Number 1 team in Week 3 of Power Rankings after getting four of six first-place votes.The other two votes went to Milwaukee Brewers, currently at Number 3.

In the previous week, the Los Angeles Dodgers were at the top spot -- Week 3 put them at Number 4, while Atlanta had a powerful performance which catapulted them into Number 2, writes Sports Illustrated.

According to MLB.com, the Oakland Athletics has had the best record in the American League West, which matched their impressive start in 1991. There were several reasons for the huge improvement despite A.J. Griffin and Jarrod Parker being out of the action. Jesse Chavez sported a 1.38 ERA. Scott Kazmir and Sonny Gray also sport 1.68 and 1.80 ERA respectively. In his four starts, Chavez also had a 38/5 K/BB ratio.

The Kansas City Royals improved the most, moving up 15 places after their 5-1 record in the third week of April. The Seattle Mariners had the biggest upset, falling 18 places with a 1-6 record, the six losses being consecutive. They currently hold a 4011 record. The Arizona Diamondbacks is still at the bottom of the rankings. They have a 5-16 record, which is the worst in baseball.
