Pot will soon be available from vending machines in dispensaries, reports USA Today.

According to the outlet, the marijuana vending machines will not only stock up on weed. Products in the vending machine could also include edibles, with all products having radio frequency identification chips for tracking purposes.

ZaZZZ, the name of the pot-dispensing vending machine, reportedly has the ability to screen people for legal access. Stephen Shearin, a COO of Tranzbyte, a company that owns ZaZZZ manufacturer American Green, assured that marijuana buyers will be properly screened.

"They would swipe their driver's license at which point multiple cameras would allow us to use some advanced biometrics to make absolutely certain that the person who swiped the card is the owner of that card," he told 9news.com.

The Independent notes that the ZaZZZ pot-dispensing vending machine is only for medical marijuana users, at least for now. "These are designed at this point legally to go inside dispensaries," Shearin said in the USA Today report.

The COO also addressed the issue of ZaZZZ going public in an interview with The Cannabist. He said, "Herbal Elements is medicinal only so no to the [recreational.] Important to add that while it will make its way down there Sunday, it won't be in public use until we are confident that we have met all necessary regulatory guidelines."

According to Shearin and Herbal Elements, pot-dispensing vending machines like ZaZZZ allow for express checkouts and more secure products for dispensaries.

"We imagine it filling the needs based on the dispensary and their client needs/wants ultimately, but for now, I see someone who knows what they want approaching the machine, purchasing and departing - all within regulatory guidelines, but without the counter lines," Shearin told The Cannabist.

"This takes a little pressure off of the people monitoring the medicine area so they don't have to look over shoulders. You can fit a lot more choices in a small area. There's no theft issue, There's no product disappearing," Herbal Elements dispensary owner Greg Honan said in the USA Today report.

The Cannabist notes that the machine debuted at a private event in Eagle County April 12 and was installed inside Avon medical dispensary Herbal Elements last April 13.
